Is anyone having an incredibly annoying time trying to read comments because of the new terrible layout? Can the administrators of Oppo roll back the design for as long as humanly possibly?

I am trying to figure out if this is just typical crappy upgrade or the will of the Hulkster brotha.... fuck...

We have no control over the workings of Kinja, or the lack thereof.

It keeps switching back and forth for me, and I’m having a hard time figuring out whether it’s a new design or a glitch. I’m leaning towards glitch, because it’s awful.

EDIT: Please tag posts like this with “KINJA HELP”. It seems to attract their attention.

The problem is that all their spending money for talented developers is now owned by hulk Hogan.

I managed to get a screenshot of it:

It’s gotta be a glitch... right? The spacing is confusing, and I don’t think I should be seeing the word “Flagged”.

So if they were spending money on ‘talented developers’ before, there really shouldn’t be any change in costs no? #feelthebern #developershereaintworthapenny

Not really, it was inferring they went cheap from their previous developers to cut costs. I don’t get the “feelthebern” either, are berniebros just putting that in any sentence despite any stretch of it making any sense?

But really, kinja has sucked since before it was kinja. Gawker group hasn’t had a decent GUI for a very, very long time.

It was a joke...... and that was my point kinja sucked before (since you said it was going to Hulk Hogan)

feel the bern was also a joke because people keep posting it and I was injecting it into something completely irrelevant other than feel the burn of the shitty kinja.

This is definitely a bug, not a new design. Hideous. Which OS and browser are you using? Do you have a screenshot?

I’m using Chrome (fully up-to-date, and on Windows 10, if that helps). I’m going to try Firefox for a while; I’ll report back...

EDIT: same thing happens in Firefox.

How often is it switching back and forth?

I’m seeing it about half the time I try to load pages. Re-loading the page usually clears it back up to normal.

The problem seems to coincide with the appearance of double headers. I see the main header with my avatar and notification icon in the corner, always at the top of the page. But there is a second, “floating” header that sticks to the top of the screen even as I scroll down.

The floating header sometimes disappears when I scroll back to the top of the page, but I’m seeing both at the same time right now:

Kinja'd!!!

When they appear together, it won’t let me click on the notifications or my user menu. The icons just turn blue without dropping down the box.

I appreciate your responsiveness here. One more thing, are you seeing homepages get screwy too, or just permalinks/comments? Wondering if your homepages look like this at any point:

It’s definitely not limited to permalinks. Opening up regular posts that bring up the top of the page in question (without auto-scrolling down) still exhibits this glitch.

I found a couple more symptoms: When I get that “double-header” glitch, I am unable to enlarge images within the post by clicking on them. Also, the scroll-bar on the right side of the screen disappears.

The double header always appears when I open a page, but sometimes it goes away in less than a second and the rest of the page is normal. But when the header stays doubled, the aforementioned glitches will occur.

I haven’t yet seen the enlarged popular stories links, as shown in your screenshot. Nor have I seen the lightning bolt icon move to the left side of the screen.

BTW, is there a newsletter or something that explains new features and how to use them? I was surprised when annotations disappeared. Likewise, the recent addition of image captions went unannounced, and I had to play around with “skybox” a bit before I figured out how it works. With as frequently as things are modified on these sites, I’d really like to stay up-to-date on how it all works.

There isn’t, but we’ve considered bringing back the Kinja Roundup . Most of the new features we’ve released have been with our editorial team in mind, so we’ve turned a blind eye to how the community uses the platform. Understandably, as the percentage of users who compose posts is negligibly small, limited only to a handful of dedicated community blogs.

That said, we’re hoping to show you guys some love soon. And of course, if you have questions about a new feature that you can’t find answers about, feel free to email us at help (at) gawker (dot) com, we’ll be glad to help you out.

As somebody who composes at least two long-form Aviation History posts a week for Oppo, I must say that I really appreciate the effort that has gone into developing the editor. A particular favorite of mine has been the ability to constrain the photo size to fit the width of the text. I used to have to do that manually for every photo. It would be neat, though, if the smaller drop-in photos aligned with the left edge of the text. I’m sort of anal about the layout. Thanks for all your hard work.

For the record, that happened to me this morning for about 20 minutes, and yes, I’m using Safari. (9.0.3, MacOS 10.9.5). I checked, and it did not do that in Firefox or Chrome. At least not for me.

There was something wonky in Safari this morning that we resolved. Looks like something (less wonky!) is happening in all browsers, still. We’re hoping to have that fixed in a day or two.

The duplicating icons at the top of the page should be fixed. Are you still seeing the comment layout jankiness?

Kinja'd!!! Urambo Tauro > Ernie @ Kinja

Kinja'd!!!0

I think you’re right; I’m pretty sure I haven’t seen the doubling-up glitch for a couple of days or so. But earlier today I was still encountering the issue where clicking on the notification icon turns it blue without dropping down the box. It doesn’t seem to be doing it right now, but it’s been an intermittent issue, so I’m not sure if it’s really fixed or not.

As for the comment section, yes, that’s still acting up a lot. Almost every time I load a page I have to refresh it to get the replies to load right.

Are you on a corporate or government network, or a 3G connection or something? What you’re seeing in the comments is most likely attributed to inconsistent network speeds.

Kinja'd!!! Urambo Tauro > Ernie @ Kinja

I’m on a home connection, a couple rooms away from the router. I do experience varying connection speeds from time to time. Maybe that’s it...

Kinja'd!!! Ernie @ Kinja > Urambo Tauro
03/30/2016 at 17:32

Kinja'd!!!0

I’m pretty sure that’s it. If you can, try to run a speedtest when comment styling fails. I’d be willing to put money on that it happens when your connection takes a substantial hit.

How about you, iaintafraidofnoghost? (See my conversation with Ernie in this thread)

Ernie suspects it might just be a connection issue. I think he might be right. Does that sound like a possible reason why you’re seeing it?

Kinja'd!!! iaintafraidofnoghost > Urambo Tauro
03/30/2016 at 20:30

Kinja'd!!!0

I don’t think so. I’m on a dedicated T1 and it is occurring. I could be wrong though. I’ve never seen this issue happen prior to the last month and I’ve been using the same connection for a few years now. I could be wrong on it being a connectivity issue though.
